MAXIM's Holiday Gift Guide 2009

In the most recent December 2009 issue of MAXIM magazine, is a "Holiday Gift Guide" using two female models to advertise the selected products.  In all of the following 4 images, the blonde and/or brunette models are seen wearing sexy barely there lingerie or even topless.

MAXIM's Holiday Gift Guide 2009

This image from the Gift Guide features a $200 axe because an axe is on every man’s Christmas wish list right?  A blonde model that is dressed in barely there lingerie advertises the axe.  But consider who is more likely to use an axe? A male.  Is it necessary then to have a half naked woman advertising a men’s product?

MAXIM's Holiday Gift Guide 2009

Another advertisement from MAXIM's Holiday Gift Guide. The Snow Mantra Parka is being advertised. Is this what you first see when viewing this ad?

MAXIM's Holiday Gift Guide 2009

Another image from MAXIM’s gift guide: I had to crop this ad a little because if I hadn’t it was hard to realize what was being advertised.  What was your first thought when looking at this page?  This ad is actually for Vizio XVT Series flat screen and the PS3 120 GB.  Consider this question: Does the image the ad portrays match the image that you posses when you think of flat screens and video game consoles?

MAXIM's Holiday Gift Guide 2009

This image also came from MAXIM's Holiday Gift Guide 2009. This page is actually for the Samson Q3 Camcorder, although I doubt that's the first thing guys would look at on this page. Yet again another image of a woman as an accessory just like the camcorder.

"Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off"

This ad for DON CARDONA tequila came from MAXIM magazine.  This woman’s body language is being used more than her physical body.  She looks seductive, sultry, sexy – all these expressions over a bottle of tequila?  Are these expressions natural when tequila comes to mind?  What message is this saying about how alcohol affects women?

SHAKE WELL and enjoy...

Another ad from MAXIM magazine for SYNTHA-6 Protein drink.  The ad reads “SHAKE WELL and enjoy,” but some questions here are: what do you assume should be be shaken and enjoyed? The drink or the women?

Video games, really?

This image is from the cover of EGM magazine. When you see this sexy character, is your mind really focused on game play? These sexy women characters are becoming more common in video games today.

Is cologne the first thing that comes to mind?

These ads for a new Tom Ford fragrance for men appeared in the pages of GQ men’s magazine. Without the use of text in these ads would it even be clear what they were trying to promote? The woman is posed in very sexual stances.  How do you feel about these ads? Do you think other consumer's would feel the same way as you?

Old Spice Body Wash "keep it clean"

This Old Spice body wash ad was featured in ESPN and Sports Illustrated magazines. The slogan was "keep it clean," by sticking to the slogan Old Spice added text that pointed out this woman was simply eating an ice cream cone on a hot day (i.e. pay no attention to the woman's sexual allure and "keep it clean"). But is a "clean" image of women really being portrayed in this picture? Is there anything else this woman is offering besides her sexuality?

An Ipod or a naked lady?

This image is from Sport Illustrated. Look closely to notice what creative techniques are used to attract your attention... a naked girl? What is being sold in this ad?

Usual cover on GQ

Heidi Klum is a very well known model and spokesperson of Project Runway. Project Runway is a TV show where inspiring up and coming designers around the country compete for the "Project Runway Title" in hopes to get their designs recognized. It is a little bizarre that Klum is so into fashion yet only wears a scarf and boots. Is this what is fashionable now?
